I spent a long weekend in Istanbul over Valentine’s Day and if there is one thing I can take away from such a short time in such a huge city, it’s that Istanbul is a city you can fall in love with.
Here is the story of my weekend affair with Istanbul told in instagram photos. Larger post with real photos, reflections and a restaurant recommendation to follow soon.
I arrived in Istanbul and it was love at first sight.
When I walked inside the Blue Mosque, it took my breath away and knocked everyone to their knees.
I waited a long time for this one to let me in.
I had heard about her before.
What they said, was all true.
She moves in mysterious ways.
It’s impossible to resist one who ages with grace and beauty.
A Valentine’s weekend wedding to set the mood.
The morning after was when I fell completely.
A walk up and down the small streets of the city.
I stopped now and again to appreciate the little things.
To take in the colors and see how the city really lived.
There is a life on the streets…
And color…
And friendship that will touch you…
And comfort.
It’s insatiable.
Eventually you give in and let Istanbul charm you.
And when you least expect it, you are gone. Floating above the chaos in a romance you didn’t know could exist between a girl and a city.
And then it’s over.

So, was a weekend really long enough to experience Istanbul? Based on your photos, it looks like you crammed in a month of exploration regardless. Thanks for sharing.

It was a long weekend and no, it was not enough time. I think a minimum of five day to see Istanbul will allow you to hit the main attractions and some off the beaten path stops, but I actually had to go back for a second long weekend and honestly still don’t feel like I truly experienced it. Are you planning a trip?

I had to cancel my trip a couple years ago; one of my dream destinations I have not made it to – yet. Thank you for sharing!
